Description:

The BFD 516 13/302 Architecture is divided in two major conceptual entities: APZ and APT.

APZ: Corresponds to the “Control” or “Intelligent” part of the architecture.It includes all kind of processors; Central (CP) & Regional (RP), with their hardware and software. The Central Processor array is also called “The APZ”.
APT: Corresponds to the “Switching” part of the architecture. It includes hardware and software for the Group Switch, Signaling Terminals, Devices, etc.
The AXE Architecture is built on many Subsystems that belong either to the APZ (i.e. CPS, DBS, MCS, etc.) or the APT (i.e. GSS,TCS,TSS, etc.). Every Subsystem homes many Function Blocks. Function Blocks are pieces of software that are responsible for the management of the different elements (software or hardware) of the architecture and their interconnection.

All the normal operation and maintenance tasks of any device or element in the network is manage by its correspondent group of Function Blocks on the Central and (or) Regional Processors.
